If you can ch, sc and dc, you can crochet this beanie! The great part about this pattern is that it is unisex and makes a great stash buster. You can also easily adjust the size and height of your crochet beanie in this pattern.

ABBREVIATIONS:

  • ch – chain
  • st – stitch
  • sl st – slip stitch
  • sc – single crochet
  • dc – double crochet
  • sc2tog – decrease (sc 2 together)
  • BLO – back loop only

MATERIALS:

  • H/5mm hook
  • Approx. 125-140 yard of ww (#4 yarn). I used Loops and Threads Impeccable – Soft Rose, White
  • Also pictured is a stash buster with 3 colors of ww yarn in size S
  • Darning needle
  • Tape measure
  • Scissors

NOTES:

  • Read through the entire pattern before you begin.
  • This pattern is written in US terms.
  • This pattern is worked bottom up. The Body is worked in the round using the griddle stitch.
  • I used two colors and dropped the yarn color when not in use.
  • Ch 1 and 2 does not count as a stitch.
  • Stitch counts are listed in brackets at the end of each row/round.

Dimensions: Small – Approx. 9.5″ x 7.5″ Medium/Large – Approx 10.5″ x 8.5″

Gauge: 13 st and 12 rows = 4″ in the griddle stitch (alternating sc and dc).
**If you match your gauge with the one above, your beanie will be the same size.

Lets Get Started!

NOTE: To Adjust the size of this crochet beanie, be sure to make the brim any odd number of rows.

R1: With pink, ch 9, sc in 2nd ch from hook and across. Ch 1 and turn. (8)

R2: Sc in BLO across. Ch 1, turn. (8)

R3-61(for S) 71(for M/L): Repeat row 2.

R4: With pink, *sc, dc* repeat from * to * around. Sc in the last st. (71)

Bring ends of brim together (like a sandwich, making sure not to twist) and sl st through both sets of st across. Turn brim inside out (to hide the stitches you just st st together on the inside of the beanie) and start crocheting the body in the round.

BODY

Both sizes:

Round 1: Ch 1, place 1 sc in each row end of brim around, sl st to firs st. S(61) M/L(71)

Round 2: With white, ch 1, *sc, dc* repeat from * to * around. Sc in the last st. Sl st to first st. (61/71)

Round 3: With pink, ch 2, *dc, sc* repeat from * to * around. Dc in last st. Sl st to first st. (61/71)

Round 4: With white, ch 1, *sc, dc* repeat from * to * around. Sc in last st. Sl st to first st. (61/71)

For Size Small:

Rounds 5-12: Repeat round 3 and 4.

*Sizing Note* If you would like to add a bit more height to you beanie, repeat rounds 3 & 4 once more (or until desired height).

Round 13: With pink, ch 2, *dc, sc2tog* repeat from * to * around. Dc in last st. sl st to first st. (41)

Round 14: With white, ch 1, *sc, dc* repeat from * to * around. Sc in last st. Sl st to first st. (41)

Round 15: With pink, ch 2, *dc, sc* repeat from * to * around. Dc in ;ast st. Sl st to first st. (41)

Round 16: With white, ch 1, *sc, dc* repeat around from * to * around. Sc in last st. Sl st to first st. (41)

Round 17: With pink, ch 1, *sc, sc2tog* repeat from * to * around. Sc in last 2 st. Sl st to first st. (28)

Round 18: With white, ch 1, sc around. Sl st to first st. (28)

Messy Bun Option: Cut yarn and weave in ends.

Regular Beanie Option: Cut yarn, leaving long tail. Thread yarn through a needle, weave through stitches and pull tight to close. Weave in ends.

For Size M/L:

Rounds 5-11: Repeat round 3 and 4. Ending with round 3. (71)

*Sizing Note* If you would like to add a bit more height to you beanie, repeat rounds 4 & 3 once more (or until desired height).

Round 12: With white, ch 1, *sc, *dc, sc2tog, dc, sc* repeat from * around. Sl st to the first st. (57)

Round 13: With pink, ch 2, *dc, sc* repeat from * to * around. Dc in last st. Sl st to first st. (57)

Round 14: With white, ch 1, sc, *dc sc2tog, dc, sc* repeat from * to * around. Dc in last st. Sl st to first st. (46)

Round 15: With Pink, ch 2, *dc, sc* repeat from * to * around. Sl st to first st. (46)

Round 16: With white, ch 1, sc, *dc, sc2tog, dc, sc* repeat from * to * around. Sl st to first st. (37)

Round 17: With pink, ch 2, *dc, sc* repeat from * to * around. Dc in last st. Sl st to first st. (37)

Round 18: With white, ch 1, sc, *dc, sc2tog, dc, sc* repeat from * to * around. Dc in last st. (30)

Round 19: With pink, ch 1 and sc around. Sl st to first st. (30)

Messy bun option: Cut yarn and weave in ends!

Regular beanie option: Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread yarn through a needle, weave through stitches and pull tight to close. Weave in ends.
