ABBREVIATIONS:

  • fsc – foundation single crochet
  • ch – chain
  • st – stitch
  • sl st – slip stitch
  • sc – single crochet
  • dec – 2 sc together

MATERIALS:

  • 10/1mm hook
  • Approx. 40 yards of (#1) yarn
I used Loops & Threads Woolike in the colors denim blue and white.
  • Darning needle
  • Stuffing
  • Scissors
  • Key ring

NOTES:

  • This pattern is written in US terms.
  • This is an intermediate crochet pattern that uses surface crochet.
  • Ch 1 does not count as a stitch.
  • Option: instead of using a needle and thread to create the numbers, you can glue on pieces of felt, yarn or use a marker.
  • This pattern would also look great as a wall hanging or applique on a blanket using a larger hook and thicker yarn.

Finished Dimensions:  Approx. 5″ x 1.5″

Gauge is not essential for this pattern. If you mach your gauge, your keychain will be the same size as listed above.

Hopscotch Keychain Crochet Pattern

Assembly

Once you have made both pieces, using blue, surface crochet (sl st) to create the line on each of the hopscotch pieces.

Start with the horizontal lines. Using blue, surface crochet (sl st) across the following rows: 6, 13, 18, 25, 30, 37. You can also look at the main photo for reference.

Next, surface crochet the vertical lines (sl st in between stitches). Start right above the 7th st in rows 6, 18, 30.

Continue up each row until you reach the next horizontal line you made.

NOTE: It makes it a lot easier if you weave in your ends as you go, otherwise you have a mess on the other side (the mess will be hidden, but will make it difficult to sew on the numbers).

BORDER

Once you have finished surface crocheting the lines on each piece, with a needle and thread, add the numbers in each square. I used digital numbers as a guide (see finished photo below). You can also glue on numbers cut out of felt, or use marker to draw them on.

When you have added the lines and numbers on each piece, place the two pieces on top fo each other (insides facing each other) to start crocheting around the hopscotch.

With blue, start in the last st of row of 1. Place 2 sc in the corner. Sc through both pieces evenly around the hopscotch, making sure to place 2 sc in each outside corner and 1 sl st in each inside corner. Sl st to first st, cut yarn and weave in ends.
