I love patterns that work up quickly with an easy row repeat. The Burwick Bookmark is an advanced crochet pattern that works up in no time! You can easily alter the size of this bookmark by continuing the four row repeat as many times as you want! Give this bookmark as a gift or make one for yourself with any Fingering weight (#1) or Worsted Weight (#4) yarn.

Burwick Bookmark NOTES:
- This is an advanced pattern written in US terms.
- This pattern is written in fingering weight yarn (#1) and ww (#4) yarn in brackets.
For Example: to start ch 15 for #1 yarn and ch 9 for #4 yarn. - You can use any size yarn and hook for this pattern, just note that the yardage and dimensions will be different than listed in the pattern.
- Ch 1 does not count as a stitch.
- Yarn shown above is Loops & Threads Woolike.
- Gauge isn’t important for this pattern. You can alter the length of this bookmark by increasing or decreasing the number of pattern repeats (rows 2-5).
- This pattern would also look great as a summer headband if you continued repeating rows 2-5 until desired length to wrap around your head and tie at the back.
Finished Size: Approximately 6.5″ X 2″
GAUGE USED:
- Gauge is not essential for this pattern because the Burwick bookmark can be as long as you like depending on yarn and hook that you use. To get the measurements listed above,
my gauge was Fingering Yarn (#1): 14 st and 14 rows (2-5) = 2″
WW yarn (#4): 8 st(s) and 7 rows (2-5) = 2″

What type of yarn should I use for the bookmark?
I designed this pattern for use with two types of yarn. I love working with worsted weight, mostly because I have so much of it in my stash, and with a 4mm hook it works up quickly! If you are short on time or like to make quick gift ideas, follow the instructions using worsted weight (#4) yarn and a 4mm (G) hook.
Using a thinner yarn and smaller hook (fingering weight (#1) and 1.25mm hook will give you a more lacy type of bookmark. Not everyone has such small hooks on hand, so if you don’t have such a small hook, try experimenting with a slightly larger hook (2mm).

BURWICK BOOKMARK PATTERN INSPIRATION:
I really enjoyed designing the Winter Kisses Scarf becuase it works up very quickly with bulky yarn. The pattern is very easy to learn because it only has a four row repeat and the slip stitches and crossed double crochet are very pretty. I have a few friends that love to read and always seem to misplace their bookmarks, so I decided to make a smaller version of the Winter Kisses Scarf in the size of a bookmark.
The Burwick Bookmark has been fun to design, especially using both fingering weight (#1) and worsted weight (#4) yarn. If you are looking for a very quick project, pick up a 4 mm hook and some ww (#4) stash yarn and your bookmark will be completed in no time! The Fingering weight version of this bookmark takes a bit more time to create, but the design really pops using such thin yarn and a small hook.

Yarn substitutions for the Burwick Bookmark:
If you don’t have Loops & Threads Woolike (#1) on hand, you can pick up any worsted weight (#4) yarn. My testers have easily substituted Bernat Handicrafter Cotton and WeCrochet Dishie Cotton. I have even experimented with making a headband with this pattern by continuing the four row repeat to wrap and tie around my head. Any yarn paired with the appropriately sized hook will work for this pattern.
