The Brisdale Scarf – A Free Crochet Pattern


Hello February! I always get excited when the snow starts to melt and I can get ready for spring! The Brisdale Scarf is a lighter scarf that works up quick with only a two row repeat. Half double crochet is one of my favorite stitches and it is the only stitch you will need for easy this scarf.

ABBREVIATIONS:

  • ch – chain
  • st – stitch
  • sl st – slip stitch
  • hdc – half double crochet
  • BLO – back loop only
  • FLO – front loop only

MATERIALS:

  • G/4mm hook
  • 1 skein ALC yarn – Wine Tweed OR
  • Approx. 230 yard of dk (#3 yarn).
  • Darning needle
  • Tape measure
  • Scissors

NOTES:

  • Read through the entire pattern before you begin.
  • This pattern is written in US terms.
  • This is an advanced beginner pattern.
  • Ch 1 does not count as a stitch.
  • You can use any size yarn and hook for this pattern. The dimensions and yarn amounts required will be different than listed above.
  • There are instructions below to attach the ends of the scarf and create an infinity scarf (circle) if you would prefer.
  • The multicolored scarf pictured below uses 1 ball of Red Heart Unforgettable – Woodlands.

Dimensions: Approx. 4.5″ x 56″

Gauge: 18 st and 11 rows = 4″ in pattern (rows 2&3)

Lets Get Started!

NOTE: To Adjust the size of this pattern, be sure to start with a chain that is a multiple of 2+1.
This pattern is a 2 row repeat.

R1: Ch 17. Hdc in the 2nd ch from hook and across. Turn. (18)

R2: Ch 1 *hdc (BLO), hdc (FLO)* repeat from * to * across. Turn. (18)

R3: Ch 1, hdc across. Turn (18)

R4-153: Repeat rows 2 & 3 (or until desired length).

NOTE: To make an infinity scarf, repeat row 2 once more. Place the first and last rows on top of eachother (making sure not to twist the scarf) and sl st through both stitches across. (18)

Cut yarn and weave in ends.
