It is a small and easy project to be able to learn how to line up the colors for this cozy.

Lets Get Started!

Round 1: Ch more than you need to be able to follow the color sequence of the yarn.
The cozy is 32 dc around.

To get started I chained more than I needed.
The pattern calls for 32 dc. I chained about 40.
This will give you a tail of chains to unravel and sew up the bottom when you are done.
Make sure you chain a larger number that enables you to be able to start your ch3 on a new color of your sequence.(see picture below) The color of the chain that you start with does not matter.
What does matter is the color of the first dc in your round.

Make sure you chain a larger number than the pattern calls for that enables you to be able to start your ch3 on a new color of your sequence

Round 2: Making sure your first dc starts on a new color in the sequence, dc in the 3rd ch from the hook.
Continue with a dc in each ch across for about 32 dc.

NOTE: It doesn’t matter if you have an extra dc at the end or not.
What matters most is that the colors of the dc line up with the end of the round. ss into the first dc of the previous round.

ROUND 3: Ch 3, dc around. (32) ss to first st of round.

Color Pooling Tips

NOTE: To get the colors to stack diagonally, you need to have the color blocks start 1 st before the same color in the previous round.

NOTE: If you have too many or not enough dc of a color you need to go back and adjust your tension slightly so that the colors are in the right place.

If you have too many, go back and make the stitches a bit looser.
If you do not have enough, go back and make the stitches a bit tighter.

ROUNDS 4-6: Repeat round 3, keeping the colors stacked properly, sl st to the first stitch and sew in your tail.

FINISHING:

Unravel the extra chains from row 1 and with a darning needle sew the bottom together.

Customize it!

Not a fan of cup cozies? make the cozy taller, add an insert (bottom half of a plastic water bottle) and turn it into a pencil holder!
