ABBREVIATIONS:

If you need help with basic crochet stitches you can find picture tutorials on the Basic Crochet Stitches page.

  • ch – chain
  • st – stitch
  • ss – slip stitch
  • sc – single crochet
  • dc – double crochet

MATERIALS:

  • 2 skeins of Lily Sugar’ N Cream Cotton – American Stripes
  • 4.5 mm Crochet Hook
  • darning needle
  • tape measure
  • scissors

NOTES:

  • This pattern is written in US crochet terms
  • ch 2 counts at a stitch
  • Because the cotton is self striping make sure your beginning chains are a different color than your first row of sc. (see picture below)
  • Because of the lengths of the stripes in this pattern, the white is always 1 row of dc and the red and blue are always 2 rows of sc.
  • PATTERN: 2 rows of sc (blue), 1 row dc (white), 2 rows of sc (red), 1 row of dc (white)
  • It is IMPORTANT to make sure each row (or rows) of color are complete from end to end and the color change happens close to the ch.
  • If you have too much or too little of a color to be able to finish the row, go back a few stitches and change your tension. (I.E to much of a color, loosen up your stitches. Not enough of a color, tighten up your stitches.)

Gauge: 14 st and 12 rows = 4″ in pattern *VERY IMPORTANT*
