Welcome to the October edition of Meet the Maker – Designer Spotlight! This month I am excited to introduce Lizette, crochet designer behind Chrisette Designs. I got to know Lizette from testing a few of her patterns (more on that below). I love meeting new makers and Lizette’s designs are awesome!
Tell us a little bit about yourself…
Hey I’m Lizette and I make crochet patterns! I’m also really into video games and anime and pretty much all forms of art.
How long have you been crocheting?
Since 2012.
What types of patterns do you design?
I mostly do amigurumi because I love the whole 3D lifelike aspect of it, all original characters. I also dabble in some hats and bracelets once in a while!
Is there anything in particular that inspires your designs?
SO MANY THINGS. Nature, video games, culture, music/music videos, my husband who is also an artist, random thoughts that pop in my head when I’m daydreaming. I notice I get inspired when I’m starting to fall asleep a little, so I keep my phone nearby to record stuff.
What is the main reason that you crochet?
At first, I just wanted a scarf and couldn’t find it in the color I was looking for, then I remembered my friend taught me a basic knit stitch in college so I ended up on YouTube, then there’s this blurry part in my memory and then I was crocheting lol.NOW I crochet because I love making original characters and fun hats.
How did you decide on your maker name?
It’s my husbands name “Chris” and my name “Lizette” mixed together. You can see the logo is actually our 2 faces. He helps with some designing, and I also just felt weird having it named after me and I’m not sure why.
Do you have a favorite pattern you designed and why?
I have to say my Sunlo Sun Alien because he was a lot of work to figure out since I gave him a full samurai removable armor set! And I just love how he looks. He was an original character my husband made up. Click on the image below to purchase his pattern.
What do you love most about being a crochet designer/maker?
I love being able to sketch something on paper and then make it 3D, which is just a different vibe than flat 2D art.
What do you love least about being a crochet designer/maker?
I don’t like all the copying I’m seeing of designs online. It’s very frustrating when someone takes your hard work and just replicates it and makes money off of it.
Is there any helpful advice you could give someone just learning to crochet?
YouTube is a great way to learn. When you see something in a pattern that you don’t know how to do, it is helpful to watch someone crochet the stitch or pattern on YouTube.
When you are not crocheting, what are you most likely doing?
Playing video games with my husband and watching anime.
What is your favorite type/weight of yarn to work with and why?
I work with size 4 worsted weight yarn 99% of the time because I use a 3.5 mm hook for my dolls and I like the size they are and all the color options in that size.
Do you have a favorite place to crochet?
Nothing fancy, just my computer desk so I can write my pattern on my computer as I work on it. I’d love to be that person who goes to a fun coffee shop with a laptop but I don’t live close to one lol.
Do you have any upcoming designs or new plans in the future as a maker?
Yes! That Sunlo doll I mentioned before is part of a series called “The Moonlo Universe” and I am going to eventually make an alien character for all of the planets. So far the sun, moon, Saturn and Jupiter are done! And THEN my husband will be drawing a comic story to go with them. I’d also like to start a Patreon once I get more followers for things like stickers and behind the scenes stuff and voting on decisions for the comic.
If you could create with any other medium (other than yarn), what would it be?
I would do digital art, which I tried, and it was really hard since I’m used to paper.

And now for something fun! I love supporting other designers and getting to know them. I have tested a few of Lizette’s patterns, The PeekaBoo Bunnies and Bears Blanket (I made into a pillow) and Lionel Claus. Her designs are fun and unique! I hope you come back next month to meet another awesome maker!
