Lets Get Started!

NOTE: Working in the back bumps of the chains makes a nicer join when you sl st with two ends of the pumpkin together. If you would like to change the size of your pumpkin, make sure to start with a multiple of 2 chains.

Pumpkin Instructions:

Small (Large)

With orange (or color of choice)

Row 1: Ch 16 (26) (leaving approx. 13″ long tail to cinch up the bottom), hdc in 2nd ch from hook, *sl st, hdc* repeat from * to * across. Turn. (15, 25)

Row 2: Ch 1, sl st, *hdc, sl st* repeat from * to * across. Turn. (15, 25)

Row 3: Ch 1, hdc, *sl st, hdc* repeat from * to * across. Turn. (15, 25)

Rows 4-31 (53): Repeat rows 2 & 3 ending with row 2 (or until desired length)

Row 32 (54): Repeat row 2. Do not finish off, continue with assembly.

NOTE: Your piece should be approx. 8″ x 4″ after row 32 (small) and 13″ x 7″ after row 54 (large).

Tendril (make 2)

With brown yarn, ch 11 (14). Place 3 sc in the 2nd ch from hook and across. (30, 39)
Cut yarn leaving a long tail to sew onto pumpkin.

Pumpkin Assembly

Fold your work in half and sl st through both sets of stitches creating a cylinder. Cut yarn leaving an extra long tail (approx. 16″ for small, 22″ for large), because this will be used to cinch up the top and create the indentations. Be sure to secure with a knot in the last stitch.

With a needle, thread tail through each row end and pull tight. Tie off, but DO NOT cut yarn. Turn the pumpkin inside out so the seam is on the inside.

Fill the pumpkin with stuffing.

With the long tail from row 1 and a needle, thread through each row end and pull tight. You can add a few extra stitches if needed to close the bottom.

Take a look at your pumpkin to see if you like the shape of it, because you can always add a bit more stuffing before closing if you would like. If you are happy with the shape, pull closed, tie off and weave in end to close the bottom.

With the extra long tail from the top, make the indentations on the pumpkin by threading the yarn around the outside of the pumpkin and up through the middle. Pull snug after each indentation. Do this evenly around the pumpkin. I made 4 indentations on the outside for the small and 6 for the large.

Sew the tendrils on the top of the pumpkin. With a dab of hot glue, add your twig(s) or cork for a stem.

This is the small sized pumpkin crocheted with DK yarn and a 3mm hook.

The Ridgeline Pumpkin above was made using hand dyed yarn from Big Knitters with a 3mm hook. I love crocheting with such bright yarn because it makes me happy. I also love supporting indie yarn dyers and creating new designs.

Congratulations!
