The Ridgeline Tote – A Free Crochet Pattern

Easy Crochet Tote Pattern

The Ridgeline Tote has been such a fun pattern to design because it works up so very quickly and is only a one round repeat. Alternating colors give this tote a nice look, but it also look quite lovely using a solid color. If I make another one, I will definitely be using three colors with larger stripes.

NOTES:

  • Read through the entire pattern before you begin.
  • This Ridgeline Tote is an advanced beginner pattern that is written in US terms.
  • Ch 1 does not count as a stitch.
  • The base of this tote is worked in rows. The body is worked in the round, from the bottom up and turned each round using the invisible join method (described below).
  • When changing colors, I dropped the color not in use.
  • You can use any size yarn and hook for this pattern, just note that the yardage and dimensions will be different than stated.
  • Using a stitch marker for this pattern is not essential, but it makes it a lot easier to know where to join and turn, I highly recommend it.
  • Due to the nature of this stitch pattern, it is important not to make the sl sts too tight.

Dimensions: Approximately 11″ X 7″ x 2″ deep not including handles.

Gauge: 7 sts and 9 rows = 2″ in pattern.

Pattern Inspiration:

The even moss stitch is quite an easy stitch to learn, because it is an easy one row repeat that alternates half double crochet and slip stitches. I often wonder how many patterns I can design using the even moss stitch, that is used in the Ridgeline Tote, and the number keeps increasing. This pattern is my 8th design using the even moss stitch and will definitely not be my last!
